So here I am close to the end of my shift. I’m starving, I’m exhausted, I am THC free. I’m wrapping up my last patient making sure she got the right bag & contents. I look over to the waiting room & see two new faces. After welcoming the pair into the showroom they introduced themselves as the makers of Hi-Pops. They brought out an impressively bright green packaged edible that instantly reminded me of my old fave ice cream: Fred Flinstone Push Pops.

I was already impressed, as a patient I’ve never seen any thing like it. The size portions of each layer were not overwhelming not making you feel so guilty especially if you’re on that “summer time fine” fitness tip. I thought the over all presentation of their product was well thought out. These guys really put effort into their product from the graphics, to the color scheme, to the thin green accent fondants separating each layer.

It was one of the busiest days I had in a while. I never found the time to eat my lunch as I just rested on my break. This was about to be the biggest mistake I made for the day. But I kept pushing on an empty stomach. I told the duo I’d give it a try, & if it works maybe we can introduce this product to our patients. They were thrilled how I was considering even trying it, & proceeded to check out our bodacious buds.

I uncapped the plastic lid sealing the Hi-Pop for the first time. I see FUDGE on top of a brownie with an oreo cookie lodged in some where (first editions of hi-pops had these) & I had to have it. I ate the whole first layer before I stepped out of the front doors. The richness of the fudge was delicious, satisfying my hunger pains. I began to leave the parking lot shortly after ten minutes to make my way home.

I was on Garden Grove Blvd about 1/4 of  a mile away from Terra & all was well.  All of a sudden, the sun’s rays were beaming brighter and hotter. I couldn’t get away from it. My eyes were behind my shades beginning to squint lower & out of my control. I felt this instant cerebral high- & then I knew the Hi-Pop was kicking in.  ”Really? After 15 minutes & this thing is kicking in?”  The drive was dragging.  All the cars around me were moving slower..then morphed in size a few times- my eyes were so low.

Finally making it home, Marc invited me to the backyard immediately stepping out to join the evening session that started three hours earlier. I sat on the bench that had the least amount of empty beers on top of it. Nate tried to pass me the backwood, but I wasn’t down. The look on my face was pretty obvious at how high I already was. We laughed for a minute, and I felt the edible kicking in even more. Marc and Nate made their way up on the roof. Yeah couldn’t join in on that so I went to the living room.

So, Mae inside watching the Giants game. I asked how her day was- soon after I sat down slowly melting into the couch. She went about her story, as I would nod my head up and down appearing to be interested; which well in fact I had no idea what her sentences even meant.  I felt the sourest look coming across my face as she continued. I couldn’t bare the sound of her voice any longer. I didn’t want to hear another word. I closed my eyes, & held my face up with my hands- and at this point my world started spinning. I felt like I was on a roller coaster loop that never ended. I had enough so I got up mid sentence- apologized- and ran away into my room to lay down….

I need to silence. The bed seems nice. But I’ll just sit on the couch. Sink into the couch. M y h e a d i s s p i n n i n g. W H Y ! ?  OMFG food is no where to be found. I’m hurting. Super Sabotage. Pure Sabotage. Ultimate Sabotage. 

I awoke hours later in a daze. I blacked out my memories temporarily & then it all started coming back to me even with a slight “hangover” yet medicated feeling. I couldnt help but laugh at myself for sabotaging my state of mind.  I always tell my patients how important it is to have an edible on an empty stomach that way they could feel the full effects of their medicine. I did just that but substituted my whole day of eating to the first layer of this Hi-Pop and got completely stuck in a trance. I forgot to eat, that was my mistake.
